Helen Tilghman Selected as Director of Rowing

Helen Tilghman, an alumna of Mount Baker Junior Crew, has been selected to the new position of Director of Rowing at Mount Baker. Helen brings both a deep understanding of Mount Baker’s goals, mission and culture and relevant educational and practical experience from her work at the collegiate and club level.

In her new role Helen will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the rowing programs, both Juniors and Masters, including: staffing, program evaluation, regatta logistics and administration. Her new role will provide better coordination and oversight of the rowing programs to better serve the needs of our growing rowing community. The new position will allow the office staff to focus on community outreach, development of the sailing program and measures to accommodate the growth of our program.

Tilghman, who has served as the Head Coach for the Junior Women’s Varsity team since the summer of 2016, has four years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, most recently as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Michigan State University Women’s Varsity Rowing.

Helen learned to row at Mount Baker and was Captain of the Girls Varsity Team in 2007-2008. She rowed four years in the highly competitive UW Women’s Varsity Program and was Varsity Boat Club Commodore her Senior year. Following graduation Helen continued her studies at UW, earning a Master of Education Degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.

In addition to her collegiate experience Helen has spent four summers on the coaching staff at the Craftsbury Sculling Center and has coached both Juniors and Masters at the club level.
