Race Results: Brentwood Regatta

Mount Baker sent 85 athletes to compete in the 41st annual Brentwood Regatta over the past weekend.  It turned out to be a year with more weather delays than normal and some rough conditions on the course for much of the regatta.  Many of the Sunday finals became timed finals as racing had to be condensed.  A timed final is when the finish order is determined by time over the course in the heats, rather than progressing to a grand final.

For the boys, the highlight was the Varsity 8+’s second place finish to Everett by just a second. Everett led the whole way by as many as 8 seats, but Baker closed the gap to 4-5 seats by the finish. These two crews will meet again at Opening Day on May 7, and again at Jr Regional Championships on the weekend of May 21.

On the girl’s side, the heats ended up being a series of near misses to the finals.  Four different boats missed the finals by a second or less.  This provides incentive for the team to be better prepared to finish races better.

For the novices, the Girls A Novice 8+ was fifth overall in a tough field, while the Girls B Novice 8+ finished fourth in a timed final.
